Besalú, one of the most beautiful medieval towns

Take a free tour through the streets of Besalú and be surprised by this magical medieval town of Girona, in the Garrotxa region while they tell you its history.

What to see in Besalú

Of the different medieval towns, Besalú is one of the best preserved. Many will be the things that catch your attention when you visit it, but surely what you remember the most is the bridge that crosses the Fluvià river and that has a fortified tower from where they guarded the access to the city.

This medieval town was built around the castle dating from the 10th century, although archaeological remains have discovered earlier pottery that suggests that Besalú was already populated before the castle was built. Taking advantage of the visit we can see the Casa Cornellà, an example of a Romanesque building that served as inspiration for later Catalan Gothic constructions.

You may pass through the door of the Jewish baths and not be aware of its simple and straightforward facade, but as various sayings go, what matters is on the inside and you should not prejudge ahead of time. This discreet synagogue has romantic and privileged views of the river Fluvià and the arches of the medieval bridge of Besalú.

Undoubtedly, this town offers a large number of buildings that are worth seeing, we recommend that at the end of the tour, enjoy the parador taking some typical tapas of the place and a cool glass of wine.
