Colonial Past and Tropical Rain Forest Walk

Duration: 2h and 30min
Languages: English
Guru: Ravi
Registered on May 01, 2023

While I enjoy Kayaking, Scuba and Golf, I have a fascination to learn about other cultures and histories and impart a bit of our own. Comparative history fascinates me. I have travelled to many countries and also lived in France, NZ, USA and UK for Schooling/ Uni and work. This tour, I sometimes combine with or hand over to final year school boys, so they get an exposure in guiding, and use any income they earn to do social projects under their school's Interact Clubs (A junior Rotary movement).

Tour description

Focus - colonial heritage, flora, and fauna.
Meet in front of the President's house gates on Hill Street
A stone Anglican chapel with great paintings and the adjoining tropical rain forest (Our Central Park since the 14th century).

Itinerary:

  1. Meet at 9:30 am at the suggested point.
  2. Walk up 600m to an Anglican Stone Chapel and en route I will relate in a nutshell (more jovially than make it heavy) the European influences from 1505 to 1948 and the history of the stone chapel - the largest open-air stone chapel in the world .
  3. In the Chapel... An explanation of the architectural features and the paintings and what controversies it created at the time.
  4. Walk another 600m from there to the entrance of the Tropical Rain Forest and hike a circular route. See plenty of monkeys.. try to spot birds and enjoy the walk while learning about the fauna that exists there. (Binos and bird books at hand)
  5. Walk down to town 750m to introduce guests to a restaurant if they wish.

Above will end with an optional Brunch based on a choice of fun restaurants that may suit one's palette. (Lunch is at personal cost)
