My name is Korbi, I’m 31 years old, and I was born and raised in Munich. Having spent most of my life here, I've had the pleasure of experiencing many local events, including working for many years at the world's largest beer festival, Oktoberfest, and encountering countless amusing situations around the city. After spending a year abroad in Córdoba, Spain, I grew to appreciate my hometown even more. In 2017, I started offering tours in both English and German, and I quickly realized how much I enjoy showing people from all over the world around Munich. After completing a seminar training and examination with the city's oldest tour guide company, I’ve continued to collaborate with them as a freelance guide. I lead a variety of private/fixed price tours, including those focused on the city's history, culinary delights at the market, brewery visits, and more recently, street art. While studying Renewable Energy Management in the nearby town of Weihenstephan, Freising, I wanted to find a way to combine my passion for guiding tours with my commitment to sustainable development. This led me to pursue a master’s degree in Environmental Education in Cádiz during the uncertain times of COVID. In August 2023, I returned to Munich and began working as an independent educator for SWM, the city's main infrastructure company. I focus on projects with schools that promote sustainable development, covering essential topics such as water, heating, and energy. I'm very excited to offer free walking tours in English and Spanish through Guruwalk, where I share the history of Munich and its innovative developments in a captivating and engaging way. Munich holds a significant place in history as the city where Hitler and the Nazi Party rose to power before the onset of World War II. This makes it an important location to reflect on this tragic chapter of our past and to learn valuable lessons for fostering a more sustainable and socially responsible future. I sincerely invite you to a very special walk through the historic center of Munich , with a final detour to the green heart of the city, in the English Garden.
In addition to important historical buildings and their interesting backstories, sometimes funny and sometimes serious, you will also learn unique anecdotes about life in the city from the local Bavarian guide who grew up in Munich and accompanies the tour.
You'll also receive plenty of local tips and information about the world's largest beer festival, Oktoberfest , and other Bavarian traditions, as well as the region's spectacular excursion destinations.
During the tour you will visit the following stops:
Meeting point/start of the tour at Marienplatz (subway and S-Bahn station), in front of the new Gothic town hall in " Wurmeck " (with a view of the town hall, on the far left at the beginning of the "Weinstrasse", i.e. the west corner).
If you see a dragon in the corner of the town hall, you'll know you're in the right place :)
How to recognize the tour guide?
A blonde guide awaits you with a blue and white checkered umbrella and sign that says "Free Local Bavarian Tour."
After the introduction to the history of the city's founding on Marienplatz and the contemplation of the Glockenspiel in the town hall, we gonna take a look to the Women's Church before we pass the famous Hofbräuhaus / Royal Brewery, and head towards the National Theater/Opera and the Royal residence.
Next, we stop at the Odeon Square (Odeonsplatz), where we will see the most beautiful church (Theatine Church) in Munich and also learn more about the founding of the biggest Beer festival of the world, the Oktoberfest, and Bavarian traditional Lederhosen and Dirndl.
On the other side, a dark story about National Socialism is also discussed, in front of the " Feldherrnhalle ". From here, the tour continues towards the green part of Munich, passing by the Hofgarten /Residence Garden to the city's pro surf wave at the Eisbach, at the beginning of the English Garden.
After a short walk through the English Garden next to the river Eisbach, the route ends at the 2nd largest beer garden in Munich, at the Chinese Tower.
There you can finish the tour with a beer and lunch, or you will be described exactly how to return to the historic center or other desired destinations for the day.
Little hint:
Although there is always the possibility of buying food yourself at the beer gardens, in this one, as in most of Munich, you can even bring your own food and you will only have to buy the beer on site.

Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
