Tour description

Stone Town walking tour.

This is 2 hours walking tour in stone Town. Stone Town is the heart and historical town of Zanzibar and Stone Town started as fishing villages in 12th century and develop to commercial empire in 19th century.   We call stone Town because the town was built by stones Red clay and whitelime. But stone Town is world heritage site declared by UNESCO in 2000.
Historical zanzibar was Oman holding from 1804 up 1964 where zanzibar gain her independence. But before Oman in 15 century the coast of East Africa was under the Portuguese up to 17 century where Oman took over the Portuguese and established their settlement. 
 So in stone Town we have different attractions where we visited. 

First we give history of Zanzibar and culture of Zanzibar and we visit all attractions that are found in stone Town. 

Freddie Mercury House. Freddie Mercury was famous Queen singer he was born in Zanzibar and his real name is Farouk bulsara. 

Old Fort. This is Arab Fort and was built by Oman defend them selves against purtugees invasions but now we use for international festivals. 

House of wonder. This was sultan Palace and he built in 1883 for ceremonial purposes. And was the first house in East Africa to have electricity and water to electric lift and was the first highest building in East Africa now is our national museum. 

Slave Market. This was the main slave market in East Africa, slaves were brought here and were sold but the market officials closed in 1873 after slave trade was abolished now is historical site here we visit to the slave Chambers , slave monument, Anglican cathedral where the whipping post used to be and final we finish to the slave exhibition. 

Spice and fish market. After slave market we visit Spice and fish market where you can see the main activities of the local here and you can see fish vegetable also you can buy spices for your own uses or gift for friends or for your mam. 

Zanzibar doors and zanzibar architecture. In stone Town we have three architectures Indian Arab and English architectures but all architectures are characterized with beautiful zanzibar doors. 

Hamamni Persian Bath. This was public bath and was built by the third sultan of Zanzibar. 

Hindu temple. 

In stone Town we have cosmopolitan population and mixed culture but 90% are Muslims, the rest are Christians Indian and non believers. But in stone Town we have 2 churches, 3hindu temples and 50 mosque but we have authentic religious torelance. 

How ever at the end of tour we give chance for shopping, this is part of the tour.
