A Brit expat who's loved in Rotterdam for over 30 years and has been inspired by the dynamic and energetic transformation of the city after the bombardment of May 1940.
Most people coming to Rotterdam are expecting a city full of stunning modern architecture because the city had to be rebuilt after the bombardment of the centre on May 14th 1940. However there is much more to Rotterdam than that and I love to show visitors some of the other faces of the city. In particular I love to show some of the interesting and hidden gems which I have discovered during the 30 years I've lived here, including my Secret Garden and the Echo Wall . I also can suggest some of my favourite shops and restaurants.
I will be outside the Tourist Information Centre situated in the main entrance hall of Rotterdam Centraal Station carrying a yellow scarf
Stunning new architecture which we call the Paperclip
First completely pedestrian shopping centre in Europe
One of the few buildings to survive the bombardment
Amazing museum building with mirrored outer reflecting walls
On the corner is the historic White House, the tallest building in Europe when it was built in 1900, another of the few buildings to survive the bombardment
Mind bending housing development which will leave you feeling very confused and amused
Modern food hall with a dazzling ceiling
Superb exhibition about the history of Rotterdam's port
Striking statue about the 1940 bombardment
