Welcome to Kotor, a stunning city nestled between soaring mountains and the Adriatic Sea. Beneath its picturesque façade lies a rich tapestry of history and intrigue, waiting to be explored. I'm Stefan Markovic, a licensed guide passionate about Kotor’s storied past. Join me on a journey that transcends typical sightseeing as we delve into this UNESCO World Heritage site and uncover its hidden secrets.
Kotor is a city of layers—both literally and figuratively. From ancient city walls to winding narrow streets that have witnessed centuries of change, every step reveals something new. My tour blends well-known historical facts with captivating stories that bring the past to life.
We’ll explore Kotor’s military history, tracing the footsteps of those who built and defended this strategic fortress town. Our adventure begins at the imposing city walls, stretching over 4 kilometers up Mount Lovćen, where you’ll learn about their construction and the battles they withstood.
As we enter the Old Town, we’ll stroll through Kotor’s famous narrow streets and marvel at St. Tripun Cathedral, a testament to its deep-rooted Catholic faith. We will also see the Clock Tower, and the palaces, reminders of Kotor’s aristocratic heritage.
With my expertise, I’ll reveal stories and insights that inspire a deeper connection to Kotor. Whether you’re captivated by fortresses or curious about its layered past, this tour is designed just for you.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Every visitor is required to pay a 1.00 euro local tourist tax when entering the old town of Kotor.
We’ll meet right at the main gate to Kotor’s Old City, a perfect starting point for our journey through history. You’ll easily spot me—I’ll be wearing a blue hat on my head and official tourist guide badge around my neck. You can’t miss it!
Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
