PhD in Social and Cultural Anthropology. Ethnographer. Tourism Graduate. Professor at the University of Alicante. Specialist in Heritage, Human History, and World Geography. Passionate about nature and history, told from the multicultural and social perspective of the peoples and communities of each region.
Imagine a journey that begins with the most basic elements: water, land and vegetation, the true protagonists that shaped Alicante, the Huerta and the surrounding villages. Through them, we will understand how each tower not only defended territories, but also preserved stories and secrets over the centuries.
Our journey begins at the iconic Torre Castillo, in the heart of San Juan Playa. From there, we will embark on an adventure that will take us through a total of 7 towers, each with a story that connects Phoenicians, Iberians, Romans and Arabs with the legends of the land. We will explore how water was used strategically, the networks of tunnels that hid resources and forbidden loves, and how the towers offered both defense and refuge for pirates, consuls and sheiks with their lovers.
At each stop, we will learn fascinating stories: from Barbarossa’s secret dealings in the shadows, to the “Queen’s Baths” where the wife of a Roman general immersed herself in her clandestine passions. We will advance through the towers, unearthing each chapter of a story that connects times and cultures, until we reach the Ferrer Tower, where we will end our journey amidst spectacular views of the Mediterranean.
Do you dare to discover Alicante from its roots? Reserve your place and come to explore the stories that lie hidden among the towers and the history of our land. Immerse yourself in a past that lives beneath our feet!
I will be in front of Torre Castillo (entrance to Restaurante Mauro) with a pirate flag waving to welcome you.
