Historic San Telmo

Duration: 2h and 15min

I am 32 years old. I have been living in the San Telmo neighborhood in Buenos Aires for 7 years, a historic area visited by tourists from all over the world. I am a political scientist, writer and teacher. I love to know places and I am a lover of the history and the details of the social processes that make up the urban landscape. Buenos Aires, like none, is plagued by that history that is lived at every step. We must activate that sixth sense to capture the past that materializes in the present through streets, houses, trees, buildings and squares. For all this, I want to be your guide in la "Reina de la Plata". Avanti!

Tour description

San Telmo is a unique neighborhood, recognizable by its streets and places full of history that make the identity of Buenos Aires in its various stages of development, going from being a peripheral suburb to an aristocratic upper class neighborhood, and then becoming a area of arrabaleros hostels impregnated with tango and milonga. The Río de la Plata, whose coast is now far from the neighborhood, witnessed every moment of a magical place that today lives to the rhythm of the sale of antiques, tourist walks and memories of the neighborhood's celebrity: Mafalda. On the walk you will visit the Lezama Park (site of one of the foundations of the city), the Russian Orthodox Church, the National Historical Museum, the Defense Street, the San Telmo Market, the Dorrego Square, the San Pedro González Church Telmo, the museums of Modern Art and Contemporary Art, the San Telmo Market, the Giuffra passage, the Old Warehouse, the San Lorenzo passage and the Mafalda Monument. ABOUT THE MEETING POINT The tour starts at the corner of Parque Lezama, right at the intersection of Brazil Street and Paseo Colón Avenue. At this end of the park there is a large water fountain, that is our meeting point 5 minutes before the agreed start time. You can recognize me since I have a green notebook in my hand. Collective lines 8, 33, 62, 64, 130 and 152 arrive in that area, among others, all of them coming from the city center (Plaza de Mayo area) and other important points such as Retiro, Congreso and Palermo. The closest Metro station of the meeting point is the San Juan station on line C. The Lezama Park is located about 13 blocks from Plaza de Mayo, easily walkable on foot along Paseo Colón Avenue, heading south.
