Hello, my name is Ricky, I am a certified guide with more than 20 years of experience, I have a Bachelor's and Master's degree. I was born in Mexico City but from a very young age I was interested in history and culture. I have traveled to many countries in Europe, America and Asia because I am interested in learning about different cultures and meeting people from other countries. I am a nature lover and a very curious person, which led me to be a guide. I currently live in Germany. Since I arrived I loved its culture and history, so I decided to start a new adventure in this country. I would like to share my knowledge and my experiences with you in this beautiful city, full of legends and history... having been the house, nothing more and many recommendations to eat traditional food, where to buy gifts at a good price, etc. Are you ready to live a beautiful experience with me? :)

Tour description

On this fun and dynamic tour of Aachen , also known as Aachen, or Aachen Baths, due to the fame that its thermal waters have acquired

History lovers, like myself, will know that it was Charlemagne's favourite residence.

It is the westernmost city in Germany, along with Belgium and the Netherlands.
Aachen has a long history, with a strong commercial component, due to its coal mines. Over time, it has increasingly become a technological centre. I would like to save the best anecdotes for the tour, as Aachen has many memories and secrets that we will discover together.

During the itinerary, we will visit some of the most interesting places that will help us get to know this beautiful city in more detail: Starting point:

1.- Market Square

The Marktplatz is the historic heart of Aachen, a place full of life. Here you can admire the Aachen Town Hall ( Rathaus ), a majestic Gothic building that has witnessed many imperial coronations.

2,-. Aachen Cathedral (Aachener Dom)

This cathedral is one of Germany's most important monuments, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was built by Charlemagne and is a fascinating mix of architectural styles, from Romanesque to Gothic.

3,-.The source of money

You can see this peculiar fountain that represents several characters who seem to be arguing or chatting, an example of the city's satirical style.

4,- The Elisenbrunnen ,

a historic thermal spring that is still active. This area also has a beautiful garden (Elisengarten) where you can take a short stroll. The spring is famous for its thermal water and its historical importance as a spa.

5,- Klenkes Monument

Over time, the Klenkes gesture has evolved into a symbol of local identity, used by Aachen residents (called "Öcher") to recognise each other, especially when they are out of town. By raising their little finger, citizens give a sort of greeting or identification as "one of Aachen". It is a casual and fun way to show pride in being from this city and, for locals, it has a deep sense of belonging and community.

6-. Statue of Bahkauv

The Bahkauv is described as a kind of water monster, with an appearance that combines features of several animals. It is often depicted as a grotesque creature, with the body of a calf or a boar, and in some versions it has a large mouth with sharp fangs. It lives in the streams and springs of Aachen, especially near the hot springs, which are very characteristic of the city.

7.- Doll fountain.

The Doll's Fountain is not only a modern monument, but it reflects important aspects of Aachen's identity. Like other public art works in the city, this fountain helps to tell the story of Aachen in an accessible and fun way. It is a reflection of the city's cheerful and open character, as well as its rich historical and cultural tradition.

8.-Printen Cookies

Over time, Aachener Printen became a true symbol of the city and a highly appreciated speciality not only in Germany, but also in other countries. Today, Printen have a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) , which means that only Printen produced in the Aachen region can bear this name, thus guaranteeing their authenticity.

Of course, during the itinerary I will be happy to answer any questions, doubts or curiosities...
Aachen is a city to be discovered and I would love for you to take home a nice souvenir.
