I am a licensed tour guide, professional blogger, and active member of the Guides Association of New York City. My passion is New York’s food, history, and culture, and my walking tours are one of a kind NYC experiences! I also created, own, and operate a tour agency called Food Strolls Guided Tours right here in New York City.
Join Alex on a Brooklyn Heights history tour to learn all about America’s oldest suburb. We’ll discuss the area’s past, from Dutch farmland to one of New York’s most elegant neighborhoods. We’ll follow the neighborhood’s demographics over time, from a provincial enclave, to a working class Jewish and Italian community, and eventually into Brooklyn’s most exclusive neighborhood.
We’ll weave our way through the Brooklyn Heights Historic District, stopping at several National Historic Landmarks along the way. Other stops include Brooklyn’s Borough Hall, several famous 19th century churches, the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, Brooklyn Bridge, Fulton Ferry Landing, and DUMBO. If time allows, we may even stop by a few celebrity mansions!!
Along the way, you'll have plenty of time to ask questions and engage with Alex on any number of topics.
The tours are casual, flexible, and fun, so bring your curiosity and a comfortable pair of walking shoes!
I will be standing on the front steps of Borough Hall, not on Joralemon Street. Walk around to the front and I will be holding a clear folder full of black and white images.
Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
